Date of original1987DescriptionThe announcement of the appointment of D.E. (Doug) Wright as Director, MIRINZ.NoteWright joined MIRINZ as its third Director in 1987, following C.L. (Lester) Davey, who had been Director from 1977. Prior to his appointment he was Assistant Director, Agricultural Research Division, MAF. Wright was succeeded as Director in 1992 by G.R. (Graeme) Longdell, who held the position until 1999 when MIRINZ merged with AgResearch. 1987 was a prestigious year for Wright, as he was awarded his D.Sc. from the University of Otago. In 1998 he received the Royal Society of NZ's Science and Technology Medal.
