Description

Date of originalcirca 1983DescriptionColour image shows a group of children standing behind the tailgate of a car, which would have held caged animals such as cats and dogs. In the background is the MAF & SPCA Animal Welfare display caravan. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (Animal Health Division), and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals worked together in the early 1980's on a community project that visited schools and community events to educate the public on animal welfare. The caravan was equipped with large information display boards that could be set up outside the caravan, and live animals such as cats and dogs were transported in the car. Scientists from MAF, and Animal Control Officers from the SPCA were on hand to educate the public on subjects such as zoonoses.
